Emmerdale’s Kev star appears to confirm dying character’s ‘true fate’
Chris Coghill appears to have settled speculation surrounding his character’s destiny on Emmerdale, following viewer doubts about whether Kev is genuinely facing death.
Kev recently arrived on the ITV soap and delivered devastating news to his secret spouse Robert Sugden – revealing he’s terminally ill with just six months left to live.
Hinting his time might be even shorter, Kev informed Robert he’d accepted his fate and hoped to spend his remaining days with his husband by his side.
Viewers remained sceptical, however, with many theorising that Kev could be fabricating his illness.
Yet actor Chris now seems to have verified that his character will indeed face a tragic conclusion, after being informed by producers during his casting process that his character would die, reports the Mirror.
Chris admitted this revelation initially made him question whether he wanted to take on the part.
He revealed: “When I was offered it and I was told he dies I thought, I like Emmerdale and I’d like to be around for a bit, so I’d want to come and do something that had some potential longevity.
“But when I was told what the character was and I came in and was told they weren’t meeting anybody else I thought, actually this sounds like a right laugh.”
This suggests Kev’s terminal diagnosis is true on the soap, with Chris being briefed about his character’s fate before filming commenced. Actor Chris has given fans a sneak peek of what to expect from the new character, amidst tension brewing between Robert’s partner Aaron Dingle.
The upcoming episodes will reveal Kev’s true identity and expose Robert’s ‘double life’.
However, despite the drama with Aaron, Chris hinted at some heartwarming scenes with Robert’s sister Victoria Sugden. He revealed: “There’s quite a nice little thing underlying with Victoria.
“She sees a vulnerability in him and there’s some quite sweet stuff that happens.”
However, the same can’t be said for his relationship with Aaron, as Chris added: “We don’t like each other. There is a lot of tension with Aaron. I like working with Danny [Miller though].”
It appears Kev should brace himself for some conflict with the Dingle family. Speaking to The Mirror, Chris said: “Aaron’s a Dingle but I wouldn’t like to have a fight with Cain. Charity, Chastity, they get involved to a degree, but a lot of it is concentrated between the three of us.”
Chris also shared that he gets along well with his co-stars Danny Miller and Ryan Hawley, who portray Aaron and Robert respectively. Regarding his relationship with Ryan, he commented: “We share a dressing room upstairs and it’s hilarious, isn’t it?”.
Ryan responded: “We have a good laugh and we all get on, similar senses of humour. We all enjoy each other’s company.”
