‘The Young And The Restless’ Spoilers: Which Cane Do You Prefer-Billy Flynn Or Daniel Goddard?

'The Youngsnd The Restless' Spoilers Cane Ashby played by Billy Flynn‘The Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers ask fans which Cane Ashby (Billy Flynn) they prefer. While this new incarnation of Cane initially put off many fans, he has definitely grown on some viewers who tentatively embraced his portrayal of the darker, edgier Cane Ashby.

‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Daniel Goddard Had A Charming Australian Accent

Other fans are still having difficulty accepting the differences between the two of them. The most obvious being that the first Cane, played by Daniel Goddard, had a charming Australian accent.

The other complaint is that Flynn is several years younger than Goddard. Additionally, there is still some backlash over the Aristotle Dumas storyline, which seemed to drag on for too long.

It was intriguing at first, but the buildup was a bit much.  Although fans waited patiently for the introduction of the elusive business billionaire tycoon.

The trip from hell at Cane’s private estate in Nice, France, was a major bust for some viewers who just wanted to see their favorite characters stop galivanting through the maze and return to Genoa City.

On top of all that, two good characters were murdered on Cane’s property, and one of them was Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd), the last remaining member of the legacy Chancellor family.

Plus, they didn’t even have a proper on-screen funeral for Chance. So, already, fans resent Flynn’s Cane.

Viewers were also accustomed to the first Cane, who played the role from 2007 to 2019, which meant the actor spent over a decade establishing this character; as a result, fans were left entranced by his portrayal.

‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Billy Flynn Vs. Daniel Goddard- You Be The Judge

In March 2025, Y&R announced that Billy Flynn, who has played the lovable Chad DiMera on the peacock soap Days of Our Lives, would join the canvas.

Of course, fans had no idea that Flynn would be a Cane Ashby recast and were a bit shocked to see Billy Flynn, with all his boyish charm and gentle charisma, play the role that Daniel Goddard had established.

Since Flynn joined the cast, there has been an ongoing debate over whether fans enjoy Goddard or Flynn more in the part.

Y&R has missed the boat with Cane’s storyline, which is the biggest issue here. Cane has boldly claimed for months that he plans to take over the entire town and all the major conglomerates owned by the wealthy and prominent families of Genoa City.

However, we haven’t seen much storyline develop as all Cane really does is hang out on a train with Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) and drink expensive scotch. Speaking of Phyllis, there is some chemistry between her and the new Cane.

‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Cane Can’t Seem To Make Up His Mind

Granted, now that Jill Foster Abbott (Jess Walton) has returned, it might get interesting. We can’t fault Billy Flynn, as he’s played the story well. Despite the writing for his character being lackluster at best.

Flynn is a gifted and talented actor, but the portrayal of Cane Ashby is inconsistent. First, he claims to his supposed love, Lily Winters (Christel Khalil), that he is done trying to rule the world.

He wants to reunite his family. The next day, he says he’s not abandoning his plans for Genoa City. The writers should make up their minds.

There is also the burning question of whether or not this new Cane has chemistry with Lily. Some fans are giving it time to develop, while others won’t give up on their original “Lane.”

Many fans struggle to get past the lack of an Australian accent. Part of Cane’s charm was the accent. That said, Flynn and Goddard are two different actors. It’s unfair to disqualify Flynn because he’s American.

We need to see if the writers can fix the mess that is the fallout of Aristotle Dumas. For now, viewers are divided over which Cane is best.
